The Zeller family’s connection to Oregon Tech is a story of tradition, family, and shared experiences spanning decades. Starting in the 1950s, the Zellers have woven Oregon Tech into their lives, creating a lasting legacy of education and community.
The story begins with Victor Divine, who enrolled at Oregon Tech in 1953 to study electronics. Victor had 3 daughters, Vicki Zeller, Cindy Dupart who attended OIT in 1975 for Secretarial Science and Sandy Becker who graduated OIT in 1986 in Radiology. Victor's passion for hands-on learning inspired his brother, Bill Devine, to follow him in 1954, studying auto repair. Both brothers embraced the opportunities at Oregon Tech and set the foundation for a family tradition of Owl pride.
Years later, James “Jim” Zeller continued the tradition. In 1980, Jim started his journey at Oregon Tech, pursuing auto diesel. Over the next four years, he completed both an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree while building lasting memories on campus. During this time, Jim met Vicki, his future wife, at a local hangout. Their connection grew through shared activities like horseback riding, dancing, and meals that brought a touch of home to campus life. By the time Jim graduated in 1984, the couple had started their own family legacy.
The tradition didn’t stop there. Erin, Jim and Vicki’s daughter, carried on the family connection. She graduated in 2006 with a degree in Applied Psychology before continuing her studies to earn a master’s degree in counseling. Erin’s success is a reflection of the values instilled in her by both her family and her time at Oregon Tech.
The Zeller family’s story is more than just milestones. From campus tours to sporting events, they have celebrated Oregon Tech as a shared experience. Family reunions often feature Oregon Tech sweatshirts and stories from their time on campus, keeping the connection alive across generations.
Today, the Zeller family represents the best of what Oregon Tech offers: education that shapes not only individuals but entire families. Their legacy reminds us that an Oregon Tech education is about more than degrees—it’s about community, connection, and the memories that last a lifetime.
As we celebrate the Zeller family, we’re inspired by their story and look forward to seeing future generations of Owls carry on this tradition.
