M.S. Marriage and Family Therapy Program

The Oregon Tech M.S. Marriage and Family Therapy (MS MFT) graduate program recently celebrated its fourth set of graduates in June 2022. The first group of students started in the MS MFT program in the fall of 2016 and, since that time, has continued rigorously training students in marriage and family therapy. The full-time 2.75-year program helps students gain knowledge, develop skills, and learn through practical clinical experiences what it takes to be an ethical and effective marriage and family therapist.

Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are trained to understand that mental health issues occur and are best treated within the context of relationships. Students in the MS MFT program learn how to work with individuals, couples, and families experiencing symptoms of mental health disorders as well as relational injuries. With emphases in Integrated Behavioral Healthcare and Medical Family Therapy, rural mental healthcare, substance misuse and addiction treatment, and cultural humility, students leave the program ready to facilitate meaningful change in the lives of their clients and in the community.

Here is what our students and alumni have to say about the MS MFT program:

“The MFT program at Oregon Tech provided me with the personal and professional skills to practice the art of therapy. The hands-on training through “real-plays,” presentations, and experiential activities throughout the program was highly beneficial in preparing me for work in rural mental healthcare.”

“The MFT program at Oregon Tech provided a lot of unique training in areas not all mental health professionals receive, including extensive training on co-occurring disorders and medical family therapy. I am now prepared to train in more areas and work with more varied populations.”

“The MFT program helped me gain the skills needed to engage with clients through various interventions learned. The focus on children/teens was very helpful as I have found a new strength and passion for play therapy.”

Additional Information:
